T O P I C R E V I E Wvickymadnesssince we are mostly identified by our sun, then shouldn't the sun rule the 1H ??Or ... Keeping aries/mars as the ruler of the first .... Shouldn't the mars placement be our identity instead of the sun's ?vickymadnessnooo i hate iphones they always duplicate the freakin' post :/doommlordwell i dont think that houses have defined ruleships in modern astrology like planets do...or every aries rising would be exlated and every libra rising would be in detirement....and it doesent seem rightthe rulership of houses in the end depends on your birthtime and not set ruleshipsthats my opinion...MyFavouriteNamei don't think so. i always saw it this way:Identity/ego : Sun, the nucleus.Mars/Venus : the embodiment. i quote: "The representation or expression of something in such a form." to me, thats what mars fulfils. i liken the analogy someone on here described along time ago:The sun is like the driver or pilot, they know the destination and where they want to go. what they want to BE. thats our core, our sun. but Mars and Venus are the vehicle, the drivers, they are how we embody ourselves into the environment, the asc included.for example, Steve jobs is a pisces, i think what he acheived in computers, music (itunes and music revolution, ipods) all show. but when you see what kind of personality he was alot of times, especially on stage, you can see the aries mars, very clearly. always could. backed up by his aries moon. and his succesful lead of apple as a company/corporate entity (Apple).. Venus in capricorn. in the end, especially after his death.. what is he remembered as and referred to most often? Visionary. (pisces/virgo energy).mars and venus are just what come to you, its what you know or how you know best to 'make it' from point A to B. Mars is how we make it from point A to B. Venus is how we provoke or get something to move from point B to A (A, being what we want or ourselves even, e.g. women attracting a man and vice versa, or Business sales, we sell products by talking about all the bells and whistles, and that makes the consumers buy it. that can be mars or venus). but everyone has a final destination of where or waht they want to be, that is usually defined by the Sun i think.i really believe the sun is what we want to be known or remembered for, the contribution we've been trying to give all this time. arguably, i think were also remembered for mars and venus but usually for things that are short term repetitive expressions/activities.i"m a leo sun, and leo asc individual, so they are quite as one for me, but im aware that my mars in virgo doesn't know how to just simply 'do it' or express it very much, instead my mars feels more confidence about corporate or practical works, or business. (mars in the 2nd house.. mars trine saturn, saturn square venus/moon)so forth.thats how people know me quickly.but what i really want to be is a creative, i love film. C1ND3RSun is exalted in Aries/first house.FaithSun rules my first house, so this is a moot point for me... a_may_geminiApparently the Ancients applied Saturn as being the ruler of the 1st house and I tend to agree with them. I have Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in the first house. I have nothing but the best intentions for when sh*t hits the fan.I think the Sun in the first house makes a person overly bloated and satisfied with themselves. Being content doesn't make you want to do anything other than be self-serving. First house is NOT about being self-serving and vainglorious.Having Saturn rule the 1st house makes one cautious and realistic about themselves so that they will (ideally) correct their mistakes and continually work on themselves. Saturn does damage control on people and prevent them from acting the fool unlike Sun in the 1st loving attention. Yes, Saturn in 1st house can make a person overly cautious of their situation, but wouldn't you want to deal with someone who's cautious and aware of themselves rather than someone who's going to be all yippie skippy about everything and not realize Armageddon is going to happen?!LOL ok, that was an extreme example, but anyway I think my point is pretty clear. The Sun is immature and boastful, whereas Saturn is mature and thoughtful. First house, the house of the self is better to be Saturnine than to be Sunny. It's the Saturnine influences that makes you resourceful and survive the Apocalypse. I have my emergency kits ready and waiting... in both my house and car. I'm biased. I have exalted Libra Saturn on the Asc. I've always loved Saturn and apparently Saturn loves my chart, if Saturn is actually capable of loving LOLA previous post mentioned that since the Sun is suppose to be our ego, so shouldn't we identify with it? My opinion is both yes and no.Yes that the ego is important for structuring our motivations and vitality. But the Sun only shines when our survival needs have been met. I think the Sun is literally the "thrive" aspect, whereas to survive is the first order of the day, and survival is actually Saturn. Saturn is concerned with solidarity and values building and maintaining foundations in order to achieve balance amongst members in the group which is probably the important principle for survival (that's also why I think Saturn is exalted in LIbra and fallen in selfish Aries). On the other side of the coin, the Sun is concerned about appearances, pomp and circumstance; ceremonial. The Sun does not need cooperation from others in order to achieve self-importance, they can be self-driven to achieve fame and accolades by believing they are worthy of it and directly pursuing their desires (self-driven goals), very Aries and makes sense why Aries would be exalted in the Sun's position. The Sun can even make do with lip service and still achieve confidence (which is why Libra would be fallen in the Sun's position because LIbra needs and values partnerships).I would say that it is necessary to connect with our Saturnine forces first in order to reach our greater ego, the Sun. Maybe that sounds like it's contrary as the Sun and Saturn are "enemies" but I think it makes sense. To be realistic and actually work towards a goal where all can benefit from achievement and survive is the 1st order of the day and then the ego can throw a parade to celebrate good times. But like I said, I'm biased. I have a tight Sun trine Saturn so maybe I'm a bit too Saturnine and no one seems to like Saturn much. I think he's actually more helpful and useful than the Sun.SmilingHeart quote:Originally posted by a_may_gemini:Apparently the Ancients applied Saturn as being the ruler of the 1st house and I tend to agree with them.
